What is Hycamtin?
Hycamtin (topotecan) is a chemotherapy medication used to treat certain types of lung cancer, ovarian cancer, and cervical cancer, often after other treatments have not been successful. It belongs to a class of drugs called topoisomerase I inhibitors, which work by interfering with the DNA of cancer cells to slow or stop their growth and division. Due to serious risks to a developing fetus, pregnancy must be avoided during treatment. Women of childbearing potential must have a negative pregnancy test before starting therapy and use effective contraception during treatment and for at least six months after the final dose. Men with partners who can become pregnant should also use effective contraception during treatment and for at least three months afterward.
